Julia Jäkel

Julia Jäkel has over 25 years of experience in media and tech and currently serves on the supervisory and advisory boards of various companies, including Munich Re AG and Holtzbrinck. After studying history, political science, and economics, she started her career in 1997 in the Bertelsmann Entrepreneurs Program, and a year later she joined the publishing house Gruner + Jahr, becoming its CEO in 2013. In 2021, she left Gruner + Jahr and Bertelsmann. From 2023 to 2024, she chaired the “Zukunftsrat zur Reform des öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunks”. Most recently, together with former Federal Ministers Thomas de Maizière and Peer Steinbrück, as well as former President of the Federal Constitutional Court Andreas Voßkuhle, she founded the “Initiative für einen handlungsfähigen Staat” under the patronage of the Federal President.
